Remind Me

It was unreal to watch such wonderful musicians breathe new life into my words and melodies. I was honored and touched by the interpretations.

When the idea for the tribute was brought to me, I was thrilled. I immediately approved of the event, and wanted to have input on who would be involved. I submitted my wish list to the mix of potential artists, and made the suggestion to film the evening. It wasn’t going to be cheap to do so I started writing checks.

As the event neared, we arranged a day for rehearsal. Jason and Jon (from my band) worked with the artists, making sure everything was ready for the next day at Disney Hall.

On the afternoon of the show, all the artists gathered at Disney Hall for a start to finish run through of the show. It was the first time everyone was together — on stage, in the audience, at catering. It’s the behind the scenes interaction that really brings an event like this to life. The small moments that help to tell the story, the connections that bring us together, and the common thread that creates the larger narrative. As a fan, those are the things I enjoy seeing on the screen.

As a musician, it was great to watch Jason and Jon perform with other artists, to play again with No Age, and to have Dave Grohl sit in with us. As the songwriter, it was unreal to watch such wonderful musicians breathe new life into my words and melodies. I was honored and touched by the interpretations.

I’ve had the dailies (raw footage of the night) for months. I’ve watched through all the footage. I’ve been to LA to look at the rough edits with Justin Mitchell. I’ve given my input.

Now I’m trying to get it finished so that I can share it with you. Business is hard these days. Cable outlets don’t pay enough to cover the cost. So I come directly to you with the idea. I am doing it myself — much as it was thirty years ago — and I’m asking for your help. I’ve come up with some fun stuff — posters, T-shirts, meet and greets — to sweeten the deal.

This was a special night for me. Justin Mitchell is doing a wonderful job of sewing it all together. I hope we’re able to share it with you real soon. Thanks for taking a look.

ABOUT THE FILM:

(Watch the trailer for the film, above)

Last November at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, some of today’s most influential artists gathered to celebrate the music of Bob Mould. Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Britt Daniel (Spoon), Ryan Adams, No Age, Craig Finn and Tad Kubler (The Hold Steady), Margaret Cho with Grant Lee Phillips, and Jessica Dobson (The Shins, Deep Sea Diver) all performed songs from Bob’s historic catalog. Until now, only the 2,265 concert attendees have seen these amazing performances. Fortunately, the entire evening was captured in stunning audio and high-quality video quality by filmmaker Justin Mitchell.

Starting today, we are launching a Kickstarter campaign to bring this amazing footage to life. Justin and his camera crew followed Bob and the other artists meticulously throughout their day catching the rehearsals, preparation, interactions — and of course the night’s unforgettable performances. Not only will the campaign fund this film, but it also offers Bob’s fans exclusive Kickstarter products such as a limited edition 7-inch single, a commemorative t-shirt, and a silkscreen print set. Additional products and information are featured below.

Your contribution to this campaign will cover past and future fees that are necessary to bring this film to completion: editing, production, union costs, location fees, bandwidth, packaging, shipping and more.
