Watch Tom Waits Join The Rolling Stones for “Little Red Rooster”

When the Rolling Stones announced the first string of dates for the band’s “50 and Counting” tour, they hinted at the possibility of bringing a few high-profile guests onstage. “I can’t name names or make promises, but that area of the show is open,” Keith Richards explained in April.

One month later, the shows are underway… and the guests are rolling in. Keith Urban joined the Stones on May 3rd, the tour’s kickoff date, for a show-stopping version of “Respectable,” while Gwen Stefani showed up later that night to duet with Mick Jagger on “Wild Horses.” Yesterday, during a marathon show in Oakland, the Stones brought up gravelly-voiced soul singer Tom Waits, who growled his way through “Little Red Rooster” like an old-time carnival barker. Waits and Richards go way back — the Rolling Stones guitarist has performed on Waits’ albums Rain Dogs and Bad As Me, and they released a version of “Shenandoah” together earlier this year.
