Earlier this year, it was reported that School of Seven Bells guitarist Benjamin Curtis had been diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. According to a press release, “he is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments and is awaiting a match for a bone-marrow transplant procedure.” Now, the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, Wiz Kid Mgmt, and GŌST are throwing a benefit concert to help pay Curtis’ medical bills. “Put Your Sad Down” takes place August 22 at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City. Update: This is taking place at the Bowery Terrace at Bowery Hotel, located at 335 Bowery.
The concert features performances from Interpol’s Paul Banks and the Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr. There will also be DJ sets from the Strokes’ Fabrizio Moretti with Devendra Banhart, and DJ MomJeans (Danny Masterson).
The show gets its name from the recent School of Seven Bells EP, which you can buy on limited edition vinyl along with your ticket. Tickets are available here.
Throughout the event, there will be a silent auction featuring donated items from the Black Keys, the Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, David Cross, Aziz Ansari, Regina Spektor, the Hives, the Polyphonic Spree, and others. The auction will continue online at Charitybuzz for one week after the event.
