New Book Rips Hillary Clinton – Stephen Lendman

Make no mistake. A Clinton presidency would be disastrous – the worst of all possible deplorable choices, none worthy of any public office, all aspirants beholden to wealth, power and privilege exclusively.

Politically, Doug Henwood would easily be defined as a true progressive, which makes his observations about Hillary all the more compelling.  Most progressives that support Hillary have no concept that she’s a warmonger and spear carrier for global empire and special interests.  But then, one need only watch Marc Dice’s man-on-the-street interviews (e.g., click here) to get a sense for how little thinking goes on in the minds of some Hillary supporters. — Eric Dubin, Managing Editor, The News Doctors

Make no mistake. A Clinton presidency would be disastrous – the worst of all possible deplorable choices, none worthy of any public office, all aspirants beholden to wealth, power and privilege exclusively.

Don’t let their duplicitous rhetoric fool you. They’re all cut out of the same cloth. Otherwise, they wouldn’t get public attention. Populist Green Party aspirant Jill Stein gets none.

A Clinton presidency would be nightmarish for the vast majority of Americans and world peace. It’ll combine the worst of George Bush and Obama, an agenda of endless wars of aggression, maybe targeting Russia, China, and/or Iran, corporate favoritism, destroying social justice, and full-blown tyranny against resisters.

Doug Henwood is editor and publisher of the Left Business Observer. It covers “economics and politics in the broadest sense,” discussing what everyone needs to know, suppressed in mainstream reporting.

In November 2014, his Harpers article headlined “Stop Hillary! Vote no to a Clinton dynasty.” It bears repeating. A second Clinton presidency is the worst of all deplorable choices.

Her qualifications “boil down to this,” says Henwood. “She has experience, she’s a woman, and it’s her turn. It’s hard to find any substantive political argument in her favor.”

As first lady, she pushed husband Bill to bomb Belgrade in 1999. The rape of Yugoslavia raged throughout the 1990s, culminating with 78 days of lawless US-led NATO aggression from March 24 – June 10, 1999.

She encouraged her husband to end welfare for needy households. Vital Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) ended. The so-called Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation (PRWORA) followed, changing eligibility rules.

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) set a five-year time limit – leaving millions of needy households (many with single mothers) on their own when aid was most needed.

As New York senator and Secretary of State, she “bec(ame) increasingly hawkish on foreign policy,” Henwood explained.

“What Hillary will deliver (as president) is more of the same. And that shouldn’t surprise us…American politics has an amazing stability and continuity about it.”

No matter who’s elected president, business as usual always continues, hardening, not softening deplorably during Bill Clinton’s presidency, worse than ever post-9/11 under Bush II and Obama – certain to be worse than ever no matter who gets the top job next November, especially if it’s Hillary, a neocon, anti-populist war goddess.

Her self-proclaimed progressivism is pure fantasy. Her record as first lady and in public office exposes her real agenda, warranting condemnation, not praise.

She “has a long history of being economical with the truth,” said Henwood. As New York senator, “she voted for the Iraq war, and continued to defend it long after others had thrown in the towel.”

She echoed the Big Lies about Saddam’s nonexistent WMDs and ties to Al Qaeda. She cozied up to right-wing Republicans to ward off criticism. As Secretary of State, she was “less of a diplomat and more of a hawk,” Henwood explained.

She backed escalated war on Afghanistan, pushed for continued US military presence in Iraq, helped orchestrate lawless aggression on Libya, and urged Obama to bomb Syria without required Security Council authorization.

She was involved in developing “pivot to Asia” strategy. “Since leaving the State Department, (she) devoted herself to…Clinton, Inc…(a) fund-raising, favor-dispensing machine” together with husband Bill, said Henwood.

Their style is self-promotion, including “huge book advances and fat speaking fees… And with an eye to the presidency, (she) kept up her line of neocon patter, while carefully separating herself from Obama.”

She deplorably supports Netanyahu’s high crimes – from naked aggression on Gaza to current war throughout the Territories. Palestinian bloodshed and horrific suffering are of no consequence. Israeli imperial interests alone matter.

Henwood concluded his lengthy article, saying “Eight years of Hill? Four, even? To borrow her anti-McCain jab from the 2008 Democratic convention: No way, no how!”

His new book titled “My Turn: Hillary Clinton Targets the Presidency” covers in greater detail what his article discussed. The cover shows her hawkish image, pointing a gun with her arm outstretched.

Her agenda is pure evil, an anti-populist neocon war goddess corporate shill, pretending otherwise.

With Biden out as a potential candidate, she looks like a shoe-in Democrat nominee, despite all the exposed baggage about her. WW III looks increasingly likely with her in the White House.

PRESIDENT Putin Responds to US-NATO Military Deployments on Russia’s Doorstep

NATO-Russia-400x269Make no mistake. America is an aggressor nation threatening world peace, stability and security. It’s increasing hostility toward Russia and China may launch WW III. Lunatics in Washington wanted Russia nuked since early Cold War days.

General Curtis LeMay (1906 – 1990) argued for doing it even at the cost of a few US cities. So did General Lyman Lemnitzer (1899 – 1988).

They believed nuclear war was inevitable so better sooner than later while America had a clear advantage. They weren’t alone from their time to now.

On Tuesday, Vladimir Putin said Russia will act appropriately to US-dominated NATO’s encroachment on its borders.

He responded to Washington’s intent to position heavy weapons and thousands of US combat forces in Eastern European countries along with its planned (offensive) missile defense targeting Russia – provocations at a time no threats exist except invented ones.

If someone threatens our territories, it means that we will have to aim our armed forces accordingly at the territories from where the threat is coming,” Putin said.

How else could it be? It is (US-dominated) NATO approaching our borders. It’s not like we are moving anywhere.

I’d refrain from whipping up emotions. Of course, we will analyze everything but so far I see nothing that might prompt us to (take responsive measures).

What worries us more is the anti-missile defense system that is being deployed – that is a significant thing of strategic importance.

Among other measures, Putin announced plans for “40 new intercontinental ballistic missiles to our nuclear force…capable of overcoming even the most technically advanced anti-missile defense systems.”

Russia will have no other choice but to boost its military potential along its western borders,” Defense Ministry General Yury Yakubov explained. He called building up military forces in Eastern European countries “the most aggressive step since the Cold War.

Russia (will have to) bolster its forces and resources on the western strategic theater of operations,” – including installing Iskander tactical missiles in Kaliningrad and boosting its military presence in Belarus, he explained.

Putin, Yakubov and other Russian officials stress Russia will act appropriately to protect its security against increasingly hostile US-dominated NATO actions.

In response, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg accused Russia of “saber-rattling.  (It’s) destabilizing and dangerous,” he said.

Putin’s “statement…confirm(s) the pattern and behavior of Russia over quite a period of time.”

“This is something which we are addressing, and it’s also one of the reasons we are now increasing the readiness and preparedness of our forces…(NATO will protect) all (our) allies against the enemy.”

He ludicrously called NATO actions “proportionate (and) defensive…respond(ing) in the face of a more assertive Russia.”

Truth is polar opposite. Stoltenberg ignored longstanding US-dominated NATO provocations – ongoing since Washington broke its pledge to former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev not to expand NATO east.

Today is the most perilous time in world history. US-dominated NATO’s killing machine is an out-of-control monster. Madness defines its policy. World peace is threatened. Humanity’s fate hangs in the balance. The price of imperial arrogance is potential nuclear armageddon.

Is Washington Planning “Operation Barbarossa 2.0″? War against Russia?

NATO-Russia-400x269On June 22, 1941, Hitler launched Operation Barbarossa against the Soviet Union – perhaps the largest ever invasion force by one country against another involving up to four million combat and support troops.

His ambition to conquer the Soviet Union, acquire Lebensraum, its resources and enslave its people failed. So did Napoleon 130 years earlier against Tsarist Russia.

Does Washington plan repeating their mistakes?

Anti-Russian hostility and saber rattling should scare everyone. US-NATO military exercises on Russia’s doorstep are provocative.

They repeat with disturbing regularity. BALTOPS is the latest.

On June 5, NATO said “(s)cores of ships and aircraft from 17 countries are taking part in Baltic Sea naval drills as part of exercise BALTOPS which started on Friday, 5 June 2015 and runs until 20 June.”

“Allied participation demonstrates NATO’s resolve to defend the Baltic region, and will hone the ability of Allies and partners to work together.”

“Fourteen NATO Allies are joined this year by NATO partners Finland, Georgia and Sweden. Overall, 5,600 troops will be involved.”

NATO Commander of Naval Striking and Support Forces  Admiral James Foggo said “(t)his exercise represents an important opportunity for our forces, as allies and partners, to enhance our ability to work together and strengthen capabilities required to maintain regional security.”

Washington orchestrates NATO war games – anti-Russian/Chinese/Iranian exercises at a time no threat from these country exists, when America, its rogue NATO allies and Israel alone threaten world peace.

A previous article asked if US-dominated NATO planned war on Russia – the madness of potential nuclear confrontation if launched.

Mounting evidence should give everyone pause for concern. Provocative US-dominated military exercises near Russia’s borders suggest preparation for war.

So does irresponsible Russia bashing – a regular drumbeat of Big Lies. State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf is paid to lie.

“Russia bears direct responsibility for what’s happening in Ukraine,” she says – despite no evidence suggesting it, plenty pointing fingers at Washington and its rogue allies.

Harf repeatedly blames “Russian separatists” for daily Kiev war crimes – naked aggression waged with full US support.

Russia is the continent’s preeminent peacemaker. America and its Kiev proxy want war.

On May 28, NATO deputy secretary general (its de facto boss) former US Defense Department official Alexander Vershbow repeated the same Big Lies about Russia he’s blustered numerous times before, including claiming:

– “Russia’s illegal and illegitimate annexation of Crimea:”

– Russia undermines regional peace:

– Russia “br(ought) war to Eastern Ukraine:”

– Russia supports Donbass militia fighters “with weapons – including sophisticated heavy weapons – with soldiers and with training:”

– “Russian aggression” destabilizes Ukraine: FALSE! The whole world knows no Russian aggression exists.

– Russia “use(s) force – or the threat of force – to achieve its strategic objectives:”

These allegations are false.

Vershbow said “(w)e are putting NATO into a position of strength…to protect our allies (and) engag(e) with Russia” – code language for confrontation stopping short of declaring war.

Ahead of his visit to Italy, Vladimir Putin addressed irresponsible Western “Russian aggression” accusations saying:

“I think that only an insane person and only in a dream can imagine that Russia would suddenly attack NATO.”

“I think some countries are simply taking advantage of people’s fears with regard to Russia. They just want to play the role of front-line countries that should receive some supplementary military, economic, financial or some other aid.”

Russia’s military policy isn’t “global, offensive or aggressive,” he stressed. (V)irtually no bases abroad” are maintained.

Moscow wants demilitarization while Washington’s agenda is polar opposite.

“I invite you to publish a world map…and mark all the US military bases on it,” he said. “You will see the difference between Russia and America.”

Military spending of NATO countries is tenfold Russia’s budget. Washington is installing so-called “anti-missile systems, bases and radars in European territory (and at) sea” – ignoring Russia’s warning about undermining international security.

America under George Bush withdrew from the ABM treaty, not Russia. It limited anti-ballistic missile arsenals. Putin called it “the cornerstone of the entire international security system.”

“Everything we do is just a response to the threats emerging against us,” he explained.

“Besides, what we do is limited in scope and scale, but is, however, sufficient to ensure Russia’s security.”

In late May, Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the threat of Washington installing so-called missile defense systems in Ukraine, saying:

“(W)e can only perceive it negatively…because it will be a threat to the Russian Federation. In case there are missile defense systems stationed in Ukraine, Russia will have to take retaliatory measures to ensure its own safety.”

Ukraine remains a dangerous global flashpoint. At an extraordinary FridaySecurity Council meeting, Russian envoy Vitaly Churkin explained repeated Kiev violations of Minsk ceasefire terms.

“OSCE monitors should not simply note ceasefire violations, but clearly write down the purpose of these attacks, and who suffers from them –  civilians or military units carrying out artillery fire against settlements,” he said.

Ahead of the June 7 and 8 G-7 summit in Germany, Obama spoke with Poroshenko. He reaffirmed strong US support “for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

He blamed Russia and Donbass freedom fighters for Kiev high crimes. So did US UN envoy Samantha Power atFriday’s Security Council session – bashing Russia irresponsibly like she always does, systematically ignoring hard truths.

Washington wants Putin ousted. They want regime change in Russia. They want pro-Western stooge governance replacing its sovereign independence.

They risk heading things recklessly toward WW III.

Poroshenko Prepares for More War

Poroshenko Prepares for More War

by Stephen Lendman
Wednesday, March 4, 2015

Sustainable, durable peace in Donbass is pure fantasy. Obama won’t tolerate it. Poroshenko is a convenient US stooge.

His power depends on remembering who’s boss. Given his colossal failures to please the power installing him, his days perhaps are numbered.

He admitted Minsk terms won’t hold. They won’t “be strictly implemented,” he said.

In less than so many words he intends more war once his military regroups and rearms from the battering it took.

it suffered one major defeat after another – especially in Devaltseve. He introduced legislation authorizing a 250,000-strength force.

“The size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in emergencies shall grow by the number of servicemen recruited for military service consistent with the mobilization decrees of the Ukrainian president,” he said.

In January, Ukraine’s illegitimate defense minister Stepan Poltorak said military budgeting will be 3.6 times greater than last year.

It’s when its only enemies are ones it invents at a time it’s bankrupt teetering toward economic collapse.

IMF and other Western funding alone maintain short-term solvency. For how long remains to be seen.

Ukraine is a black hole of fascist extremism, extreme repression, out-of-control militantly, scandalous corruption, and rage for more war against its own citizens.

An anti-populist budget passed without parliamentarians given a chance to read it.

It drastically cuts pensions. Retirees will get 15% less. Payments to tax, customs and regulatory body personnel are suspended.

Ukrainians already experience the world’s highest hyperinflation at over 270%. Since February 2014, the hryvnia currency lost around 70% of its value perhaps heading toward worthlessness.

Energy prices are skyrocketing. Henceforth, gas for heating will increase 230% to about $132 per 1,000 cubic meters.

Gas for cooking will skyrocket from $43 to $263 per 1,000 cubic meters. Economic crisis conditions are worsening.

Devastating austerity was imposed on millions of deeply impoverished Ukrainians to qualify for $17.5 billion in loan-shark-of-last-resort IMF funding.

Despite economic disaster, Poroshenko is preparing for more war. On March 4, RT International headlined “Ukraine replenishes Donbass tank supplies amid ceasefire.”

On the one hand, its military continues violating Minsk terms. So far, it refused to withdraw heavy weapons as stipulated. It’s repositioning them instead.

It’s adding reinforcements. It’s preparing for more war. Sporadic shelling continues. Colonel Cassad reports it’s targeting Donetsk’s airport and “sometimes tries to attack” it.

It perpetuates the myth of a strong military. Reality is a battered one desperately trying to regroup and rearm for more combat.

Fascist lunatics operate this way – especially with encouragement from Washington.

RT reported Ukraine’s state-owned Ukroboronprom defense corporation saying it shipped T64B tanks to the defense ministry and national guard better able to withstand attacks than previous models.

A statement claimed they’re “ready to carry out missions in the anti-terrorist operation (AT) zone” – referring to Donbass.

Numbers of tanks supplied aren’t known – or payment terms. Ukroboronprom said new ones are equipped with better protective armor. According to a Latvian military source:

“In Ukraine, hulls of T-64 tanks are often severely damaged, with entire pieces of armor plucked out, and you can see that the damage is done along welding seams of the hull, while the rest of the armor plates left out bent.”

“The most obvious explanation to the damages of Ukrainian armored vehicles is the poor quality of manufacturing.”

Donbass freedom fighters know ceasefire remains shaky at best. They’re ready to repel any future Kiev attacks. Overnight Tuesday, they reported eight Ukrainian military shelling incidents.

On March 4, Sergey Lavrov wasn’t encouraging. On the one hand, Kiev Minsk violations continue.

On the other, Lavrov said Contact Group members Russia, the OSCE and Ukraine were “urged to create working groups for reviewing all aspects of the Minsk agreements…as soon as possible.”

So far, Kiev hasn’t complied. It “refuse(s) the proposals of Donetsk and Luhansk, of the Russian side, to create such groups and announce their composition, trying to drag out the process. It is troubling,” said Lavrov.

“There should be no doubt that the documents from February 12 must be implemented fully.”

“This includes immediately establishing working groups, starting work on a constitutional reform, restoring social and economic ties and so on.”

Kiev obstructionism shows it wants war, not peace. It’s just a matter of time before it resumes – with full US support and encouragement.

Expect Minsk II to accomplish no more than previous Russian initiated conflict resolution efforts.

War and peace decisions are made in Washington, not Moscow. Obama wants Donbass freedom fighters crushed.

Expect renewed conflict at his discretion. Maybe this time with shock and awe Pentagon support.
In the meantime, Ukraine prepares for more war. It’s taking part in ongoing NATO Annual Crisis Management Exercises.

They’re “designed to test (North Atlantic Council) procedures at the strategic political-military level,” according to NATO.

“The exercise rehearses decision-making processes using an entirely fictitious scenario” likely to be very real during US-led NATO’s next war.

Maybe targeting Donbass. Acting as Kiev’s air force. Destroying Novorossia the way Obama ravaged Libya.

Given Washington’s rage for permanent wars without end, expect the worst ahead.

Expect more mass slaughter and destruction – perhaps genocide before Washington’s Ukraine campaign ends.

Separately, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich blasted US policy, saying:

“We have noticed a remarkable fact. As soon as signs of a peaceful settlement of the severe Ukrainian crisis appear, Washington, that had a hand in last year’s coup in Kiev, starts to exacerbate the situation.”

“So this time, when the ceasefire regime agreed upon in Minsk on February 12 with assistance of Russian President Vladimir Putin is being implemented, Barack Obama’s administration is again issuing threats, announcing extension of the previously imposed sanctions and promising new ones – both against our country and against the DPR and LPR.”

“What is this if not an attempt to destroy the tenuous budding of trust between them and Ukrainian authorities, to undermine or even derail the peace process.”

“The same applies to promises of massive American weapons supplies to Ukraine, indulging revanchist plans of Kiev’s ‘party of war.’ “

“We would really appreciate if the United States would finally start thinking about the consequences of its decisions and actions.”

“Moreover, no sanctions will change Russia’s principal position. It is high time for Washington to realise it.”

According to Russia’s ambassador to NATO, Alexander Grushko, Moscow will do whatever is necessary to counter possible threats from Alliance involvement in Ukraine.

Mostly blaming Washington, he said some “NATO countries are adding fuel to the fire of this conflict.”

Deploying combat troops masquerading as instructors directly aids Kiev’s “party of war” intention to resolve crisis conditions “by military means.”

“It runs counter to NATO leadership statements (claiming) Ukrain(e’s) crisis has no military solutions,” Grushko stressed.

It bears repeating. Ukraine’s conflict is far from settled. It’ll resume at Obama’s discretion.

Odds favor sometime this spring – perhaps Libya-style war using Kiev ground forces as US shock troops the way Washington uses ISIS in Syria.

YuliaTymoshenko Caught in the Act

02A5F04F-6C42-4476-A66B-49695C3EEA97_cx0_cy4_cw0_mw1024_s_n_r1

Saint Yulia Tymoshenko with friend Victoria Nuland

by Stephen Lendman –  March 26, 2014

Her leaked phone conversation was damning. She spoke with former Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council deputy secretary Nestor Shufrych.

She called for turning Russia to ashes.

Weeks earlier, Assistant Secretary of State for European and European Affairs Victoria Nuland was caught red-handed on tape.

Her leaked conversation circulated on You Tube. It’s more evidence of America’s dark side.

She and US ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt discussed regime change. Current putschist prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk was named as a Washington favorite.

The leaked video was damning. It’s four minutes long. It’s titled “Maidan puppets.” It refers to Kiev’s Independence Square.

In early March, Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet’s conversation with EU foreign policy head Catherine Ashton was leaked.

He was heard saying “there is now stronger and stronger understanding that behind the snipers, it was not Yanukovich, but it was somebody from the new coalition.”

Maybe more damning leaked conversations will follow. Don’t expect scoundrel media coverage.

Tymoshenko is a billionaire mega-thief. She heads the fascist Batkivshchya/All-Ukrainian Union (Fatherland) party.

She and neo-Nazi Svoboda co-founder Andriy Parubiy co-led Washington’s 2004 Orange Revolution. He heads Ukraine’s National Defense and Security Council.

She was an illegitimate Orange Revolution prime minister. At the time, Western officials praised her as a force for democracy and freedom. So did media scoundrels.

She was imprisoned for embezzlement and serious “abuse of public office.”

Charges included illegally diverting $425 million meant for environmental projects into pension funds. A second case involved stealing around $130 million for personal use.

Putschist extremists illegally freed her. She has presidential aspirations. She may head Ukraine’s illegitimate government after sham May elections.

At one time, evidence showed she had nearly 300 secret foreign bank accounts. Over a dozen remain open.

She controlled Ukraine’s United Energy Systems. Former Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko awarded it monopoly rights to import Russian natural gas.

He profited handsomely for doing it. In 2004, a US court convicted him of money laundering, theft, and hiding funds in foreign accounts.

His indictment called his crime “part of a conspiracy (related to) receiv(ing) money from companies owned or controlled by Tymoshenko, including United Energy Systems, in exchange for which (he) exercised his official authority in favour of (her) companies.”

Tymoshenko was up to her ears in wrongdoing. Perhaps she remains so. She’s a mega-crook.

US prosecutor Martha Moerosch cited “evidence that companies controlled by Tymoshenko took part in the schemes for transferring money to Lazarenko’s accounts.”

“There were bank statements” proving it, she said. Prosecutors found Tymoshenko funds worldwide.

Ukrainian analyst Orysia Lutsevych said as Orange Revolution prime minister, “she did nothing to reform the economy and establish rule of law.”

“Instead, she focused her attention on infighting inside the Orange Revolution in order to prepare her presidential race.”

“Most (Euromaidan protesters) were not demanding her release.” Her shady business practices earned her the nickname “gas princess.”

Her leaked phone conversation took place on March 18. She was caught saying she wants to mass-murder Russians. She wants Putin dead.

Media scoundrels reported nothing. The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and others were silent. Russia bashing lies drown out important truths. It’s standard presstitute practice.
RT International broke the story, headlining “Time to grab guns and kill damn Russians – Tymoshenko in leaked tape.”

Her vitriol was extreme. She urged scorched earth where Russia now stands, said RT. She said: “It’s about time we grab our guns and kill those katsaps (a derogatory Ukrainian term) together with their leader.”

She confirmed the call’s authenticity. She did so via Twitter, saying:

“The conversation took place, but the ‘8 million Russians in Ukraine’ piece is an edit.”

“In fact, I said Russians in Ukraine – are Ukrainians. Hello FSB 🙂 Sorry for the obscene language.”

Shufrych’s press service went into damage control mode overdrive. It lied calling the tape fake. According to korrespondent.net, the “conversation didn’t take place,” it said.

It followed Putin signing the Crimean reunification treaty. It kickstarted what culminated days later.

Tymoshenko was enraged. Her inflammatory comments followed. She called what happened “really beyond all boundaries.” Her comments expressed rage to kill.

If she was in charge, she said, “there would be no f…ing way that they would get Crimea then.”

Shufrych said Ukraine “didn’t have any force potential” to keep Crimea. Tymoshenko said she would have found “a way to kill those katsaps.”

“I hope I will be able to get all my connections involved. And I will use all of my means to make the entire world raise up, so that there wouldn’t be even a scorched field left in Russia,” she added.

Referring to Putin, she said she’s ready to “grab a machine gun and shoot that m…erf…er in the head.”

She’s like Washington-installed fascist ultranationalist putschists running Ukraine. She belongs in prison. They have no legitimacy whatever. They represent mob rule.

They risk civil war. They risk spreading it cross-border. They risk confrontation with Russia. They risk the unthinkable. They threaten world peace.

Obama embraces them. He supports what demands rejection. They’re a rogue’s gallery of societal misfits. They’re hugely dangerous. They make mafia bosses look saintly by comparison.

They run an important central European country. It nearly matches France in territorial size. It’s almost double the size of Germany. It’s larger than Britain, Italy or Spain.

It’s important industrially. It’s called Europe’s breadbasket for good reason. It’s dark soil is the continent’s richest. It has over 130,000 square miles of arable land.

Its other resources include iron ore, coal, manganese, natural gas, oil, salt, sulfur, graphite, titanium, magnesium, kaolin, nickel, mercury, and timber.

Western corporate interests plan to exploit them. They want Ukraine strip-mined for profit. Banks and other financial interests want its wealth stolen. IMF indebtedness assures taking it from ordinary Ukrainians.

The worst of conditions awaits them. They’re headed for greater than ever impoverishment, unemployment and deprivation. How they’ll react remains to be seen.

On March 23, RT International reported “(m)assive anti-Maidan rallies (across) eastern Ukraine…” They reject Kiev putschists.

They want referendums deciding their future. Thousands rallied in Kharkov (Ukraine’s second largest city), Donetsk, Lugansk, Odessa and elsewhere.

Residents want Ukraine federalized. They want local authority free from fascist Kiev rule. Many favor joining Russia. It remains to be seen if Western Ukrainians begin acting the same way.

A previous article discussed reports about US private military contractors operating in Ukraine. Perhaps Academi (formerly Xe Services/Blackwater USA) forces are involved.

They’re mercenaries. They’re hired guns. They’re trained to kill. They operate extrajudicially. Academi maintains close CIA/Pentagon ties.

On March 2, Voice of Russia (VOR) headlined “Ukrainian leadership to hire US mercenaries to suppress eastern regions – source,” saying:

“Private military company (operatives) will be in charge of suppressing protest movements in Eastern Ukraine…”

Itar-Tass was cited. It named Greystone Limited. It provides “protective services.” Its personnel include former law enforcement agency and military operatives. They’re skilled in the art of killing. It’s owned by Academi/formerly Blackwater USA.

VOR reported Itar-Tass saying “Ukrainian authorities believe that the Security Service is not able to suppress the protest mood and neutralize the leaders and activists of the pro-Russian movement in the eastern regions.”

Illegitimate putschist president Alexander Turchinov believes it.

VOR reported a Ukrainian Security Service representative saying “it was decided to attract foreign mercenaries, who will serve as political police and state security protection.”

Kiev appointed billionaire oligarchs running Dnepropetrovsk and Donetsk regions urged getting guns for hire involved. Perhaps they’re now operating in Eastern Ukrainian cities.

Separately, RT International headlined “Notorious Ukrainian nationalist militant shot dead in police raid.” Aleksandr Muzychko (aka Sashko Bilyi) was named.

He was killed in Rovno. It’s in western Ukraine. He coordinated ultranationalist neo-Nazi Right Sector elements.

They include paramilitary extremists. They were centrally involved in Euromaidan violence. Their ranks include thousands.

They wore hoods and helmets. They used fire bombs and other tactics. They performed sniper killings. Dmytro Yarosh is a Right Sector leader. He’s way over-the-top.

He openly boasts about “…fighting Jews and Russians till I die.”
He calls Russia Ukraine’s “eternal enemy.” He said war between both countries is inevitable.

Muzychko’s killing appeared other than what was officially reported. He was a wanted man. Perhaps others like him await the same fate.

According to Ukrainian First Deputy Interior Minister Vladimir Yevdokimov, he was shot resisting arrest.

His elimination appeared more like a political assassination. He and likeminded extremists were used to seize power.

They’re no longer needed. Regime security forces replaced them. They’re hardline. They’re controllable.

Right Sector extremists are a power unto themselves. They promised revenge for Muzychko’s killing. They refused to disarm as putschists ordered. They formed their own political party.

What’s ongoing appears similar to Nazi Germany’s early days. Hitler used SA Brown Shirts to consolidate power.

In 1934, its leader Ernst Rohm was eliminated during the so-called Night of the Long Knives. A potential Hitler rival was removed.

Other SA leaders were arrested. Many were shot. Rohm was given a chance to commit suicide. He refused. SS elements killed him.

Killing Muzychko may be part of an old-fashioned extremist regime purge. Other Right Sector elements may be targeted the same way.

They’re militant. They’re well armed. They’re able to fight back. How ably remains to be seen. RT International quoted Right Sector Rovno coordinator Roman Koval saying:

“According to Ukrainian First Deputy Interior Minister Vladimir Yevdokimov, he was shot resisting arrest.” Koval doesn’t believe it.

“We will take revenge on (Interior Minister) Arsen Avakov for the death of our brother,” said Koval.

Muzychko’s killing was “an assassination ordered by the minister. Muzychko never received any notices concerning criminal offenses and was never summoned anywhere,” he added.

Other Right Sector elements called the Interior Ministry’s version of what happen an “outright lie.” They claimed Muzychko’s hands were tied when killed.

According to a former Ukrainian intelligence official, its head, Valentin Nalivaichenko, ordered him eliminated.

“The goal of the operation was not to capture, but to neutralize Muzychko, to take him off stage,” he said.

RT said he was on a Ukrainian police wanted list. Moscow put him on an international one. It’s on charges of torturing and killing at least 20 Russian soldiers during the first 1994-95 Chechen War.

Internal Ukrainian power struggles may get nasty. They bear close watching. Washington’s dirty hands are very much involved.

New York Times Editors Defend the Indefensible – Stephen Lendman

By Stephen Lendman
Published by Global Research, May 20, 2014
news11Jill Abramson is gone. Dean Baquet replaced her as executive editor. Deplorable policy remains unchanged.

It’s featured daily. It’s done so in articles, commentaries and editorials. Disgraceful op-eds are standard practice.

Misinformation rubbish is featured. What readers most need to know is buried.

Lies, damn lies and Big Ones infest Times pages. Yulia Tymoshenko is a former illegitimate Orange Revolution prime minister.

She’s billionaire mega-thief. She accumulated wealth the old-fashioned way. She stole it.

She was imprisoned for embezzlement and serious “abuse of public office.”

Charges included illegally diverting $425 million meant for environmental projects into pension funds. A second case involved stealing around $130 million for personal use.

Putschists freed her. They did so lawlessly. She has presidential aspirations. She enjoys weak support.

Earlier she had dozens of secret offshore bank accounts in over two dozen countries. Reportedly most are closed.

At least 13 worldwide remain open. They hide her ill-gotten wealth. She conspired with former prime minister Pavlo Lazarenko among others.

From the mid-1990s, enormous funds were stolen. They disappeared. They did so when Tymoshenko ran United Energy Systems (UES).

Lazarenko awarded it monopoly rights to import Russian natural gas.

US prosecutor Martha Moerosch cited “evidence that companies controlled by Tymoshenko took part in the schemes for transferring money to Lazarenko’s accounts.”

“There were bank statements” proving it, she said. Prosecutors found Tymoshenko funds worldwide.

As Orange Revolution prime minister, “she did nothing to reform the economy and establish rule of law,” she explained.

“Instead, she focused her attention on infighting inside the Orange Revolution in order to prepare her presidential race.”

“Most (Euromaidan protesters) were not demanding her release.” Her shady business practices earned her the nickname “gas princess.”

On May 18, she headlined her NYT op-ed “A Vote for Ukrainian Freedom.”

She lied about Ukraine’s upcoming sham May 25 elections. She called fascist governance democratic.

She ludicrously cited “threats of invasion and sabotage by fifth-column separatists.” She outrageously suggested putschist-run Ukraine resembles America under Lincoln.

She quoted his 1864 reelection comment, saying:

“We cannot have free government without elections; and if the rebellion could force us to forgo, or postpone, a national election, it might fairly claim to have already conquered and ruined us.”

“Like Lincoln, we Ukrainians are resolved to go to the polls to choose a new president, in defiance of every threat.”

“We will not grant victory to those who would discredit and dismember our country by allowing the May 25 vote to be canceled.”

“Our election must go ahead if only to prove that the 100 and more men and women who died for our liberty in the protests around Maidan, Kiev’s Independence Square, did not die in vain.”

Fact: Coup-appointed putschists rule Ukraine.

Fact: They’re lawless fascists.

Fact: Washington elevated them to power.

Fact: They include neo-Nazi militants.

Fact: They’re Obama’s new friends.

Fact: He pretends they’re democrats.

Fact: They have no legitimacy whatever.

Fact: So-called May 25 elections exclude democracy from ballots.

Fact: Fascist putschists intend anointing likeminded ideologues.

Fact: They murdered scores of Maidan civilians and special Berkut police in cold blood.

Fact: They planned it well in advance.

Fact: Shots came from nearby Philharmonic Hall windows. Its rooftop.

Fact: Ukraine’s toppled legitimate President Viktor Yanukovych was wrongfully blamed.

Fact: Police died doing their job.

Fact: They showed remarkable restraint.

Fact: Washington’s dirty hands bore full responsibility.

Fact: Stooge putschists shared it.

Fact: Right Sector thugs were trained to commit what happened.

Fact: CIA operatives were involved.

Fact: Tymoshenko represents the worst of Ukrainian society.

Fact: She belongs in prison serving hard time.

She lied claiming Putin intends “transform(ing) our democratic country into a Russian vassal state.”

“No one should doubt that Mr. Putin’s primary aim is to hollow out our democracy.”

“But Americans, and free people everywhere, must not be deceived by Russia’s aggression, or by Mr. Putin’s current peace offensive.”

“The separatist cause fomented by Russia would never win on its merits in any free and fair vote of Ukrainians.”

“Russia’s separatist mafia can win only sham elections of the type that Mr. Putin has imposed on Russia since he came to power 14 years ago, and which he recently forced upon our fellow citizens, now hostages, in Crimea.”

Fact: Putschist-run Ukraine excludes democracy.

Fact: Putin represents responsible geopolitical leadership.

Fact: He’s polar opposite Obama.

Fact: He believes rule of law principles are inviolable.

Fact: He respects sovereign self-determination.

Fact: Democracy in Russia shames America’s sham process.

Fact: Crimeans voted near unanimously for reunification with Russia.

Fact: They reject Kiev fascists.

Fact: They want fundamental democratic rights.

Fact: They want what everyone deserves.

Fact: They merit universal support.

Tymoshenko lied called Putin Russia’s “strongman.” He’s overwhelmingly popular. He enjoys over 85% support.

It’s for good reason. He governs democratically. He opposes imperial lawlessness. He’s polar opposite Kiev fascists.

Tymoshenko lied claiming “Ukraine’s liberty is a mortal threat to the authoritarian, state-capitalist system that Mr. Putin has unleashed on Russia’s citizens.”

“If Ukrainians…can build an open society and a free economy…then ordinary Russians may recognize the scale of the liberties and the economic opportunities that have been stolen from them under Mr. Putin’s misrule.”

Fact: Putschist-run Ukraine is polar opposite Tymoshenko’s Big Lie.

Fact: Times editors are complicit.

Fact: They embrace it.

Fact: They featured it.

Fact: It’s longstanding Times policy.

Fact: Reprehensible rubbish substitutes for what readers most need to know.

“(W)e must man the barricades of freedom…if Ukraine is to remain free,” Tymoshenko claimed.

She turned truth on its head saying so. She wants more Western aid. She wants weapons and other military aid.

She wants it straightaway.

She wants democracy supporters crushed. She wants hardline fascist rule solidified.

She wants greater opportunities for more grand theft. She wants her share of plundered Ukrainian resources.

She wants her own people exploited. She wants freedom entirely crushed. She wants what most Ukrainians reject.

Perhaps it’s just a matter of time before thousands, maybe millions, of Ukrainians nationwide realize they were had.

Perhaps they’ll rebel and demand better. Real democracy replacing illegitimate putschist power.

Maybe they’ll defeat Obama’s imperial ambitions. Maybe handing him another defeat.

Maybe preserving rights too precious to lose. Maybe saving Ukraine at the same time. Maybe achieving real change.

Maybe inspiring others to emulate them. Maybe people everywhere wanting to live free.

Democracy Landslide in Eastern Ukraine: Lugansk and Donetsk Declare Independence

Published by Globe Research.  Article by Stephen Lendman

On Sunday, Donetsk and Lugansk regional referendums were held. Democracy triumphed overwhelmingly.

Almost 90% of Donetsk residents voted for self-determination. For local autonomy. For self-rule. Accounting to Central Election Commission head Roman Lyagin:

“Counting the ballots proved to be surprisingly easy. The number of people who said ‘no’ was relatively small, and there appeared to be only a tiny proportion of spoiled ballots, so we managed to carry out counting quite fast.”

“The figures are as follows: 89.07 percent voted ‘for’ (self rule), 10.19 percent voted ‘against’ and 0.74 percent of ballots were rendered ineligible.”

“The region is witnessing the escalation of violence,” he added. “(L)ots or armed people have come to the region. Sometimes it is impossible to say whom these people represent.”

Ballot deliveries were impeded. They were “beset by the danger to the life and health of members of election commission” members.

Final Lugansk results showed 96.2% for self-rule. Election Committee deputy chairman Alexander Malykhyn announced it.

A celebratory 5-6PM Monday rally was held. Thousands participated. They did so under hazardous conditions.

They came anyway. New rules apply. Self-determination is official. Kiev putschists have no say.

Residents in both regions live under virtual war zone conditions. Fundamental rights matter more. Freedom is too precious to sacrifice. Near unanimity affirmed it.

Turnout under dangerous conditions was extraordinary. It was unexpectedly high.

In Lugansk it was 81%. In Donetsk 74.87%. Residents in some areas risked life and limb to vote.

They did so anyway. In Krasnoarmeysk, special National Guard forces and Right Sector thugs opened fire on unarmed civilians.

Two deaths were reported. Others were injured. Fascist regimes operate this way. Kiev acts on direct orders from Washington.

Donetsk Region People’s Governor Pavel Gubarev said:

“The referendum for us is about creating a new state paradigm.” It’s “everything for us. It is our independence.”

“It is formation of a new entity – The Donetsk People’s Republic. But this new entity is only the first step to our forming a bigger entity of Novorossia.”

He referred to 18th century Russian empire territory. In 1922, it included Southeastern Ukraine.

Slavyansk People’s Mayor Vyacheslav Ponomaryov said closer ties with Russia will follow.

It’s “our brotherly nation,” he explained. He hopes for “full interaction…including entering (into) a Customs Union.”

RT International’s Paula Slier tweeted:

“#Lugansk leader says it’s probable that after independence, the rgn’ll form a unit govt w/#Donetz. Acc. to him, other rgns’ll follow them.”

A Kremlin press service statement said:

“We have taken note of high voter turnout despite attempts to derail the voting and we condemn the force used, including military hardware, against civilians, which lead to fatalities.”

“Moscow respects the will of the people in Donetsk and Lugansk and hopes that the practical realization of the outcome of the referendums will be carried out in a civilized manner, without resorting to violence, through dialogue between representatives of Kiev, Donetsk and Lugansk.”

“In the interests of establishing such a dialogue all mediation efforts will be welcome, including by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.”

Russia condemned the use of force, “including with the use of heavy armaments against peaceful citizens that caused human losses.”

Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said his views on what happened Sunday depend “on the strength of their results.”

He’ll make them known at an appropriate time. He recommended postponing Sunday’s referendums.

“(It) was difficult” for area residents to comply. “Taking into account real combat conditions, (they) had to act according to their own plan and proceed from the actual situation.”

Peskov called Western accusations against Russia “absolute folly.”

“Why could not the West prevent the use of armoured personnel carriers in Slavyansk and Kramatorsk and avoid the gunning down of civilians,” he asked.

“They did not use their influence, and they do not give a hang while Russia is blamed for everything.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov closely followed events.

“We have taken note of high voter turnout despite attempts to derail the voting, and we condemn the force used, including military hardware, against civilians, which lead to fatalities,” he said.

Russia’s lower house State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said:

“The referendums show(ed) (the will of the people) to defend their rights, essentially, their wish to be free.”

They believe “their rights are massively violated in the current state system.”

Russian upper house Federation Council member Sergei Tsekov said Donetsk and Lugansk regions demonstrated real choice. World nations should recognize it, he added.

“Unfortunately, the self-proclaimed authorities of Ukraine did not let (both regions) hold their referendums in a calm atmosphere, but, clearly, the vote demonstrated the will of people…”

“The referendums have totally convincing results: we saw how enthusiastic people were about the referendum and how many of them came to polling stations.”

“If the world unwaveringly supports democratic values and wishes peace and accord in Ukraine, it should recognize the referendums and do its best to assist Ukrainian regions and the center to sit down and agree on their future.”

On Monday, EU foreign ministers met in Brussels. They discussed Sunday’s referendums. They considered policy options going forward.

They include possible sanctions on 15 more Russian officials and five Crimea-based companies.

On Monday, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy visited Kiev. He came to support its coup-appointed government.

He discussed preparations for May 25 sham presidential elections. They’ll be illegitimate when held. EU nations support them. So does Washington.

Western countries endorse what demands condemnation. They criticize real democracy. They deny their own people fundamental rights. They want other nations denied theirs.

On Monday, Sergey Lavrov said no new meetings on Ukraine are planned. Efforts to resolve crisis conditions so far accomplished nothing.

“I have heard statements by Ukraine’s Acting Foreign Minister (Andrii) Deshchytsia and While House spokesman (Jay) Carney to the effect that the four-party format of the talks should be preserved, but I shall say once again that, without including the regime’s opponents into the direct dialogue over ways of settling the crisis, the efforts will go nowhere,” he said.

“Russian channels are being blocked in Ukraine,” he added. “The West is seeking to fill them with their interpretation of events.”

“But ambassadors in Moscow watch what Russian television shows and should say the truth about current events in Ukraine to their governments.”

Lavrov commented on flagrant Western lies relating to Donetsk People’s Republic statements he made. He hopes implementing referendum results going forward will proceed smoothly.

Washington and rogue EU partners reacted to Sunday’s referendums as expected. They denounced real democracy.

They called it illegal. They might try adopting some themselves. They consider it verboten. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki lied saying:

Sunday’s referendums “violate(d) international law and the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The United States will not recognize the results of these illegal referenda.”

Rogue EU nations march in lockstep. Foreign policy chief Katherine Ashton’s spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic lied saying:

“The so-called referenda in…parts of Lugansk and Donetsk regions were illegal, and we do not recognize the outcome. Those who organized the referenda have no democratic legitimacy.”

Hostile public statements won’t change things. Donetsk and Lugansk residents spoke. They did so courageously.

They affirmed their legitimate rights. Their democratic ones everyone deserves.

They did so overwhelmingly. They reject Kiev fascists. They acted responsibly. They deserve universal support.

On Monday, Kiev troops attacked Andreevka village. It’s about 100 kilometers from Slavyansk.

“There was an artillery attack,” a self-defense spokesperson said. It began pre-dawn.

“Houses have been destroyed. Cars are on fire. There are casualties, but the numbers aren’t yet known.”

“The enemy started the artillery attack…using heavy mortars and howitzers. Also we have data on…using helicopters for covering operations.”

RT’s Paula Slier tweeted:

“Communication between #Andreevka and #Slavyansk – as well w/other cities around it – reportedly affected. It’s difficult to get info.”

Repeated explosions were heard. Firing came from Karachun Mountain’s TV tower vicinity.

Checkpoints were attacked. So were residential areas. Kiev tried disrupting Sunday’s referendums. It failed to do so.

Assaults on self-defense forces and noncombatants continued on Monday. It bears repeating. Fascist regimes operate this way.

On Monday, the Moscow Times headlined “Russia Recognizes Outcome of Self-Rule Referendums in Eastern Ukraine,” saying:

Kremlin authorities urged implementing it peacefully. People spoke. They did so overwhelmingly. Their will matters.

It bears repeating. It deserves respect. It merits universal support. It’s polar opposite Washington’s way.

It’s the right way. It’s a model for people everywhere to follow.

Luhansk Republic declares independence from Ukraine

Head of Central Election Committee of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic Alexander Malykhin

Head of Central Election Committee of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic Alexander Malykhin

A total of 96.2% voted for self-rule in the Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine, where the results of the Sunday referendum were announced on Monday
Luhansk People’s Republic, whose residents supported the act on state sovereignty at the May 11 referendum, has declared its independence from Ukraine.

‘Popular governor’ Valery Bolotov stated this at a rally on Monday.“We have chosen our path of independence from arbitrariness and bloody dictate of the Kiev clique, fascism and nationalism, the path of freedom, the path of rule of law,” Bolotov said. “From the moment of declaring its independence, a new life free from dictate of Kiev authorities will start for the Luhansk People’s Republic,” he added.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Luhansk City Council has demanded that the authorities in Kiev should ensure the process of federalization in the country.

“We demand that the current authorities follow the voice of the people and immediately make constitutional changes which should enable the federalization process,” the council’s presidium members said in a statement on Monday. “Otherwise, responsibility for breaking up the country will fall on the central authorities.”Council deputies urged the Kiev authorities to grant Russian the official status of a second state language and to stop “the fratricidal war” in Ukraine’s eastern regions.
